Few days ago,CKN Nigeria received a petition from a certain group accusing the governor of Akwa Ibom State Godswill Akpabio of unlawfully detaining this young man Odudu Ukpanah at Ikot Ekpene Prison in the past six months unlawfully.
We were able to get across to the Akwa Ibom State Government on the allegation and this was their reply.
“Thanks CKN for trying to reach me. The case of the young man is very pathetic and is already in court so I cannot comment much on it. But suffice it to say that it is blatant lie that Governor Akpabio ordered his detention. From what I had gathered the father was gruesomely murdered by unknown assailants and being the only one who was reportedly with the father at the time of the incident, the Police may have felt he has a case to answer and probably throw more light on the matter. Like I said, I feel for the young man but let me appeal that calling Governor Akpabio names on the internet and falsely claiming he ordered the arrest of Odudu will not bring justice to the family. We should all appeal to all those involved in the dispensation of justice to the Ukpanah's family to do so expeditiously. I still have confidence in our judiciary system that if the young man is found to be innocent he would be released”..
