Buhari's Campaign:7 APC Supporters Shot In Rivers State

No fewer than seven supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) were shot yesterday by suspected political thugs who ambushed them on their way to the flag-off ceremony of the presidential campaign  of  the APC  candidate, General Muhammadu  Buhari (retd), held at the Chief Adokiye Amieyesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

It was gathered that the vehicle carrying some APC supporters from Kana Local Government Area ran into an ambush laid by some trigger-happy political thugs, who opened fire on the bus, and in the process wounded six persons, including women.

Some gunmen who laid ambush on Trans-Kalabari Road for the APC supporters also shot at three persons.

At the time of filing this report, it was learnt that some of the victims were battling for survival, even as the traditional healers were making frantic efforts  to extract bullets from their affected parts.

Confirming the attack during his speech at the rally, Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaech, said the state was gradually going back to the era of shooting and killings. “We are gradually going back to that. I heard today, that members of APC, from Asari-Toru and Kana Local Government Areas were shot at on their way to this place. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) believes in gun, we believe in God and man. We shall stand and face their bullets; we shall stand and face their guns. The government in power cannot protect you and I. If the government could not protect you and I, why were we shot at? Who bought gun for those people, who shot at our members?”

When contacted on incident, the Rivers State Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said he was not aware of the gun attack at Kana Local Government Area.

He, however, confirmed the one at Asari-Toru, claiming only one person was wounded.

Meanwhile, thousands of APC supporters in Rivers State yesterday defied the cold weather and trooped to the 40,000 capacity Adokiye Amieyesimaka stadium as early as 6am, to attend the presidential rally.

Addressing his supporters, the APC presidential flag bearer, General Muhammadu Buhari, commended Governor Amaechi for his ability to mobilize people. He said the crowed at the stadium was an indication that the party made the right choice by appointing Amaechi as the director general of his campaign organization.
