Report has it that the APC is reaching out to various interest groups in
the South West Zone including former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
A member of the APC National Working Committee, who pleaded anonymity,
said, “Some months ago, the leadership of the party met with the former
president for his valuable advice. We are also reaching out to him on the issue
of the vice-presidential candidate for his input.”
Obasanjo had a few months ago warned the APC against fielding
presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the same faith.
It was gathered that among the names that had been suggested by Obasanjo
was a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who is a
Christian from Osun State.
It was, however, learnt that some interests in the party felt that the
fact that Oyinlola is a retired general like Buhari, might make the joint
ticket difficult to sell.
