Goodluck Jonathan ,Tambuwal Resolve Differences

The political enmity between President Goodluck Jonathan and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, following the latter’s defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, may have been resolved.
Tambuwal told his fellow lawmakers at plenary yesterday that his defection was because of his political future and the political developments in his home state of Sokoto. But since then, there has been no love lost between the lower chamber of the Legislature led by Tambuwal and the Executive under Jonathan.
The feud between both arms of government came to a head when on Thursday, November 20, 2014, the speaker and some House members were prevented from gaining access into the National Assembly Complex by a detachment of the Nigeria Police when they turned up for an emergency sitting to deliberate on the request of the President for the fourth extension of the emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
Although Jonathan told a gathering of some Yoruba leaders and PDP bigwigs in Ile-Ife, Osun State, recently that he was still suffering from his inability to stop Tambuwal from becoming the speaker of the House in 2011, he appears to have changed his mind as Tambuwal presided over the House affairs yesterday as the speaker without any threat to his position.
Also, two letters addressed to him in that capacity were personally signed by President Jonathan.
In the first letter dated December 2, 2014 and entitled “Submission of Revised 2015-2017 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework” read at plenary by Tambuwal yesterday, Jonathan in the last paragraph emphatically said: “Please accept, Right Honourable Speaker, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
