Gunmen
suspected to be robbers yesterday snatched an official car of Jigawa State
governor Sule Lamido at gunpoint.
The car,
confirmed to be one of the official spare cars of the governor, was said to
have been stolen from its driver around by-pass road in the state capital,
Dutse.
Confirming
the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abdul Jinjiri,
said they received a report of a robbery case in which a Toyota Land cruser was
snatched at gunpoint in the state capital at about 9pm.
He explained
that, according to the report, the suspected robbers were in a Peugeot 406 when
they stopped the Toyota driver and confiscated it.
Jinjiri added
that after receiving the report, policemen were quickly deployed to trail the
missing car.
He, however,
revealed that the driver of the missing car was in the hands of the police for
interrogation.
It was observed that, recently, there has been upsurge
in vehicle robberies, house breaking and cattle rustling in the state, which
may not be unconnected with the approach of Christmas and New Year celebrations
