An ARIK Air Scheduled Service with Flight no. W3 408 from Abuja to Yola has aborted the flight and made an Air Return to Abuja.
The Aircraft a CRJ 900 with registration no. 5N - JEA was on its initial climb out of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport,Abuja when the Crew had a loud noise.
The Aircraft Pilot following the Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs) promptly made an Air Return to Abuja.
On landing at Abuja,the Airline's Engineers carried out a preliminary investigation which revealed the Aircraft had suffered a Bird Strike.The Right side of the Wind Shield had a minor dent.
According to the Captain,all parameters of the engine observed were okay.
The Aircraft is on ground in Abuja and the Certifying Engineer and an Inspector from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is already carrying out a thorough assessment of the aircraft to ensure its airworthiness.This is the regulatory procedure prior to releasing the aircraft for further operations.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) therefore reiterate that all airline Crew must ensure that international best practices and NCAA guidelines are followed during their operations.
