The All Progressives Congress
(APC), on Monday, said it did not have a definite response to the no-violence
post-presidential election reactions proposed by diplomat elder statesman,
Professor Bolaji Akinyemi.
Professor Akinyemi had proposed
that both President Goodluck Jonathan, candidate of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) and General Muhammadu Buhari of APC should sign an undertaking,
promising a non-violent reaction to possible loss of the February 14, 2015
presidential election on both sides.
The technocrat also said he
raised the same issue prior to the 2011 election, adding that his suggestions
were not acted upon.
Reacting to an enquiry on the position of Buhari and his party on the proposal, APC’s
spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said it was premature to react.
He explained that though he had
read the story, the content of the proposal was yet to be fully read and
studied.
When it was pointed
out that the entire letter was published by the newspaper, he insisted that he
would have to read the letter, separate of the story.
He further disclosed that he
would also have to discuss with the national chairman of the party, Chief John
Odigie-Oyegun, before a position could be taken.
