Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the August 9 gubernatorial election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, yesterday accused the leadership of Osun State All progressives Congress, APC, of plans to assassinate him to stop the ongoing trial of the petition he filed against the victory of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Omisore in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Victor Oriola, copies of which were made available to newsmen, claimed: “We are constrained to inform the general public, especially the security agents that we have uncovered plots by the leadership of APC in Osun State to assassinate Senator Omisore in order to cover up the electoral heist perpetrated on August 9.”
But when contacted, Osun APC spokesperson simply said: “No response. I can’t dignify a pathological liar with a response. He has no shame.”
Oriola said: “We have noticed that whenever Senator Omisore comes to the venue of the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal at Oke- Fia, he is being trailed by unmarked vehicles, ostensibly to monitor his movement. Because of this development, Senator Omisore has been advised not to appear personally in court in order forestall these unscrupulous elements from perpetrating their evil deed.
“The plot, which is being coordinated from Lagos State started around June this year when some assassins, who have been on Omisore’s trail during the gubernatorial campaign broke into his house in Lagos. Some of the people apprehended by the police are yet to be charged to court since then.”
He said the move is coming on the heels of “startling revelations” coming from the Election Petition Tribunal handling his petition, adding that “it is better for the security to have the information to be able to know how to prevent the inhuman act.
“The dwindling political fortunes of the APC in the South West are responsible for this sinister plot that is meant to silence those who are considered as a threat in the region.”
