The Police Council, chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan,
has confirmed the appointment of Suleiman Abba as the Inspector General of
Police, IGP.
Abba was appointed in acting capacity on July 31,
following the retirement of Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.
With his confirmation, Abba has been admitted into the
Police Council.
Speaking with State House correspondents after his
appointment was confirmed, Abba said it was a call to duty for him to work
harder.
According to him, Nigerians deserve the best from the
police to make the country safe and secure.
Abba assured that the police would manage available
resources judiciously for the security of the country.
On the criticism that trailed the withdrawal of police
aides of the Speaker , House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, and his
alleged partisanship, Abba said: “Well, that is a matter before the court and
it is prejudice for me to comment on it. I wouldn’t want to have any problem
with the judiciary.”
