A 55-year-old
oil mogul, Alhaji Hammed Fashola, who was kidnapped penultimate Thursday by a
gang of kidnappers at Egbeda area of Lagos State has been rescued by the police
in Lagos.
It was gathered,
yesterday that the victim, who is said to be a chieftain of Nigeria Union of
Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, was abducted at the entrance of his
Unity Estate residence around 7p.m.
The kidnappers
were said to have escaped with the victim in a blue Toyota Highlander Sport
Utility Vehicle, SUV, to Iseri-Oshun and demanded a N50 million ransom.
Sources at the
state Command Headquarters, Ikeja disclosed that SARS operatives led by SP Abba
Kyari, trailed the kidnappers to their den at 18, Odeniyi Ishola Street, Off
Bola Road, Isheri-Oshun, Lagos, where they rescued the victim and arrested
three members of the gang. The victim was said to have been chained in a
toilet.
Spokesman of
Lagos State Police Command, Ken Nwosu, identified two of the suspects as
39-years-old Kelvin Igah and Victor Igah, 35, both said to be brothers from
Kwale in Delta State.
Nwosu explained
further that efforts were in top gear to arrest the remaining members of the
gang.
