In line with sustained drive to build a world class and knowledge-driven government agency, the Federal Road Safety Corps has secured approval for a study centre by the National Open University of Nigeria, as part of measures to further engender professionalism among its operatives in the discharge of its statutory mandate.

While approving the study centre, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Vincent Tenebe recalled that the FRSC has remained committed in its efforts to deliver on its statutory mandate as manifested through reduction in road crashes in Nigeria and described the initiative of creating a study centre for the Corps as a value-adding move that will positively impact on the FRSC operatives on service delivery.
According to him, the National Open University enjoys similar partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Union of Road Transport Workers and other relevant government agencies and organizations. He also disclosed that the approval of an FRSC study centre is coming at a time when the University has established a department on Transportation, adding that the synergy will no doubt, enhance the intellectual capacity of FRSC personnel on road safety management and traffic administration.
Earlier in his presentation, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi commended the selfless service which the Vice Chancellor rendered to the country as Chairman of the National Committee on States’ rating on road crashes and stated that the Corps’ robust digitalization process will provide seamless integration of the FRSC personnel into the National Open University academic programmes.
Speaking further, the Corps Marshal also said that the partnership will further open a new vista of opportunity for FRSC personnel to improve on their academic profile while discharging daily routine functions and will also provide the plank for the Corps to seek additional windows to enhance its capacity building drive for staff aside from the FRSC Academy and Training School presently running in Enugu and Mubi respectively.
According to him, this arrangement will enable the Corps to further extend its personnel’s capacity building in specialized areas such as Transport management, traffic engineering and policing, in addition to the provision of the leverage to obtain first, masters and doctorate degree programmes that will further enhance their capacity to align with global best practices in road safety management.
