A suspected serial killer identified as Femi Kuti (not the afrobeat star) has been arrested by the men of the Ogun State police command.
The suspect, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that Kuti, until his arrest in Ijebu-Ode, on Monday, was the leader of Black Axe, a secret cult group in the area.
While parading the suspect, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad headquarters, Magbon, Abeokuta, on Thursday, said the suspect, upon interrogation, confessed that his group had killed no fewer than 50 people in the state.
He explained that the suspect was arrested on information by members of the public, adding that his arrest was a major boost to the command.
Okoye said members of his (Kuti’s) gang engaged his men in a gun battle during which the suspect was injured on the leg.
Also paraded were three fake Customs officers identified as Ajayi Jemibewon (23), Brilliant Oruaro (29) and Sunday Farotimi.
They were said to have been arrested with 11 assorted vehicles, on Lagos-Sagamu Expressway.
The commissioner said the suspects had defrauded so many unsuspecting members of the public under the pretence that they were officers of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He added that two other members of the gang were now on the run.
The suspects confessed to the crime while speaking with newsmen.
