The formal declaration of President Goodluck Jonathan for next year’s
presidential election has been fixed for November 11.
The president inaugurated the committee headed by former acting National
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Bello Mohammed, at the
Presidential Villa, on Thursday, with a charge to select a convenient date
between November 7 and 15.
But at its inaugural meeting inside the state House, Abuja Banquet Hall,
on Friday, the committee resolved to fix the event for November 11.
According to Mohammed, no venue has yet been chosen to host the
declaration ceremony.
He stated that the venue of the event would be decided
at the next meeting of the committee, although he did not say when the
committee would meet again.
“The president gave us the task to organise a platform for him to meet
Nigerians and announce his response to the various calls for him to come out
and declare his interest in the presidential election.
“The president has not said anything yet, but it is like all Nigerians
have called on him. It is our honest hope that he will come out and say ‘yes’
to the demand of multitude of Nigerians.
“We expect he will say ‘yes’ but we cannot say ‘yes’ for him. We will
wait for him to speak.
“The date fixed for hid declaration is Tuesday, November 11,” he said.
