The winner of the 2014
Promasidor Quill Awards, Mr Kunle Arthur Falayi has said that Promasidor has
written a new and exciting chapter in his life.
Falayi made this
declaration in London on Friday at the end of his four-week intensive
multi-media journalism training at the Thompson Foundation courtesy of
Promasidor Nigeria Limited. “Winning the Promasidor
Quill Awards not only gave me the opportunity to be trained at one of the world’s
oldest media organisation, I have also gained valuable multimedia
journalism skills which were previously beyond my
reach. Journalism isn’t going
anywhere – it is changing and whatever shape journalism takes in the next few
decades, I want to be part of it.
Because of this training, the options that
are now open to me are numerous and I feel that whichever path I choose in the
media, I have the confidence and skills to succeed. ”
Falayi noted that the last
one month has been one of the greatest days of his life because
the training was the first major one he was getting as a journalist. “This
training has had the most impact on my journalism career. The overall
experience of living in London with journalists from other countries was just
as important and I am grateful to Promasidor who made this possible. The skills I have now are too big to keep to
myself, and I can't wait to share it with my colleagues back home.”
Kunle who commenced a one
week attachment with the Daily Telegraph
of UK on Monday demonstrated some of his newly acquired multimedia skills
in his final presentation entitled “Is London becoming Buskers Hell?” which
was shot, edited and voiced over entirely on an Iphone.
Niger Baker, Chief
Executive of Thomson Foundation also commended Promasidor for sponsoring
the training stressing that any
organisation that invest in the media would not
only enable journalists to thrive in their work, but also inspire them to
contribute back to the society in the future. “In journalism, there are
several ways of telling a good story and a journalist that will be relevant
in the next few years will be one who is fantastic at multimedia journalism.”
It can be recalled, that Mr. Kunle Arthur
Falayi, a correspondent with Punch Nigeria Limited, was declared the overall
winner at the 2014 Promasidor Quill Awards for journalists. Apart from the
high-end laptop and the company’s products, Mr. Falayi was also sent to
London for an all-expense paid multimedia training at Thompson Foundation by
Promasidor.
Promasidor Nigeria launched the Quill Awards in 2012
as a platform for assessing, recognizing and rewarding excellence for
outstanding journalistic work based on merit.
