Ayo Fayose Warns Banks Over Huge Unauthorised Withdrawals By Outgoing Govt

The Transition Committee set up by Ekiti State Governor-Elect, Mr Ayo Fayose, has written commercial banks in the state warning them against involvement in illegal financial transactions with the outgoing administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
In the letter dated September 2, 2014 and signed by the Chairman, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, and sent to all branch managers of commercial banks operating in the state, the committee said it had information that the outgoing administration was mopping up N50 million each from the banks under the guise of taking contributions for Education Trust Fund from them.
Anisulowo wondered why the administration would now start to collect such at the twilight of its tenure.
"Similarly, we have been informed that some banks are being used by the incumbent government to effect payments on phoney and nonexistent multi-billion naira contracts/procurement/services, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti inclusive.
"The purpose and intent of this letter therefore, is to advise your bank/financial institution to decline further cooperation with this administration on these irregular expenditures and on any other questionable financial transactions which lack integrity, but are purposely initiated to loot the government treasury.
"We wish to state, with due respect to your corporate image as a registered financial institution in Nigeria, that the incoming administration of Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose when it comes on board in October 2014, will not hesitate to take appropriate administrative and legal actions, consonant with the dictates of the relevant financial laws, principles and regulations against any bank/financial institution found culpable of negligence, reckless and fraudulent financial dealings with the outgoing administration," he warned.
The committee chairman therefore, enjoined the banks to conduct their business with the outgoing government with sincerity of purpose, respect for financial laws guiding their operations and in line with the ethics and codes of conduct for banks and financial institutions operating in Nigeria.
