In a bid to set in
motion new precedence and enthrone a sustainable value driven leadership
organization, the newly elected chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council, Eastern
zone, Comrade Peter Igbifagha has put together a three-day long Leadership
Training Summit, with the Theme:‘Equip Me to Lead Well. The summit on
going at the Sasun Hotels in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt is expected to
run between the 13th to the 15th of August 2014.
The summit which is
being organized barely three days after the Comrade Peter Igbifagha led
leadership was formally inaugurated has been described as a step in the
direction. It was the first in a long time for membership of IYC Eastern zone
and expectedly brought together a good number of youths including members of
the consultative Elders forum of IYC Eastern zone.
Speaking to newsmen the brand new chairman of IYC
Eastern zone Peter Igbifagha said the move has become necessary to change the
perception of people about the group and to imbibe in the Eastern zone
membership leadership values that are well in tandem with the 21st
century organizational value system and to position ourselves for the
challenges of leadership in this present times.
The IYC Eastern zone helmsman noted that the
programme among other things is aimed at consciously equipping the Ijaw youths
with needed values creating an avenue to further converge and interact
positively.
“The cardinal objective of the Ijaw Youth Council
as a body is largely to clamour for Resource Control and Self Determination.
However, on assumption of office I felt it was imperative for us to do
something differently by carrying out these functions with some sense of
decorum and attitude and to reorient ourselves in line with acceptable global
leadership practicality which basically is the essence of this summit” he
said.
The three day Leadership
training summit was graced by renowned resource speakers who took on delegates
and impacted on them sharing knowledge, leadership training and networking for
a greater IYC Eastern zone.
The event also featured
a mix of plenary and panels on youth and leadership. The first session in the
first day featured the topic, ‘Building A 360 Degree Leadership’, while
the second was focused on ‘The Rules Of Parliamentary Proceedings’. More
topics are expected to come up in the remaining days of the summit as
participants strategize to leverage on the platform to build effective
leadership qualities, lasting relationships, engaged in interdisciplinary
dialogue, and develop cooperative responses for addressing shared challenges
beyond the confines of the Ijaw Youth council Eastern zone.
