Lock up shops in Ikeja |
MOST shops around Ikeja remained shut on Wednesday and will remain so
till Saturday in honour of the
traditional leader of the community, the late Olu of Ikeja, Oba Rauf
Adeniyi Aremu Matemi, who joined his ancestors on Wednesday.
Eminent personalities, including Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rafiu
Jafojo, Henry Ajomale and the All Progressives Congress (APC)
national women leader, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson and others have started to
pay tributes to the departed ruler.
Nelson, on Thursday, evening led a delegation of APC women to the palace
of the late ruler around Ipodo in Ikeja and in her condolence message, she
claimed to be representing APC national leader, Senator Tinubu and other party
members.
Dr Waliu Olalekan Apena, the oldest son of the ruler, while
speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, said a date had not been
announced for the burial of the ruler.
Investigations showed revealed that the late ruler was not sick and was
reported to have shared jokes with people at his palace before he passed on.
Traders around the area continued to honour the deceased ruler, as their
shops remained closed, with some of them trying to give skeletal services to
their customers.
