THE anxiety which enveloped Oyo State capital, Ibadan, on Wednesday and
Thursday over the state of health of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba
Samuel Odulana Odugade 1, has been described as a rumour by the first son of
the traditional ruler, Professor Femi Lana, saying, “Kabiyesi is hale and
hearty.”
By Wednesday evening, the rumour of
the death of the traditional ruler had spread, while people were trying to
confirm real situation.
Nigerian Tribune sources confirmed
that one of the cars of the Olubadan had been around at the University College
Hospital, Ibadan, for some days. Sources also informed that the traditional
ruler underwent a minor surgery at the hospital on Sunday, reason which fuelled
the rumour.
But Professor Lana, in a text message
made available to the Nigerian Tribune, refuted the rumour. He said his father
was hale and hearty and that he was with him on Thursday morning while he had
his breakfast.
“The reigning Olubadan of Ibadanland,
Oba Samuel Odulana, is hale and hearty, contrary to the rumours circulating
around. In fact, I was with Kabiyesi this morning when he was taking his
breakfast. Please ignore all the rumours,” Lana said.
