Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, declared that
the rift between himself and former President Olusegun Obasanjo was all
over, reiterating that he harboured “no hatred or enmity” against his former
boss.
Alhaji Abubakar made the declaration in Abuja when he granted audience
to the leaders of the Northern Youth Leaders Forum, a group that recently
embarked on a mission to heal the rift between the former president and his
deputy.
Led by Comrade Eliot Afiyo, the group had, weeks ago, met former
President Obasanjo in Ota, Ogun State, where he announced that he had
forgiven his former vice president.
According to the former vice-president, “I don’t harbour any grudge
against my former boss. Yes, we had disagreements in office. These were mere
disagreements. I harbour no hatred or enmity against him or anybody. I never
had anything against him and I will never have.”
While stating that in politics, he had opponents but no enemies, he
declared that “politics is not war.”
Abubakar thanked the group for successfully brokering peace between him
and former President Obasanjo, adding that the single effort had marked the
leaders of the youth organisation as serious-minded people who were fully
prepared to take over the leadership of the country from their seniors.
On the current security situation in the country, Atiku appealed
to the Federal Government to take the challenge more seriously.
He said: “If we can go to other countries to rid them of these kinds of
problems, it shows that we have the capacity to put this one down immediately
so that the suffering of the people can be reduced.”
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the group, Comrade Afiyo, described
Abubakar as a “honest and forthright leader, a courageous and dogged democrat.
Nice one Turaki, We must all learn to disagree and then agree for the
ReplyDeletebetterment of the whole country. Nigeria and Nigerians must always be
put first above all other interest be it personal, religious, ethnic or
political.
Peace in Nigeria and safe return of our chibok girls is all we pray for now.
LET'S ALL SAY NO TO BOKO HARAM AND TERRORISM IN NIGERIA.!
A working environment where there is no disagreement, is a place where there is no sincerity of purpose. It takes courage and knowledge of ones duties and responsibility to be able to confront a superior. This quality and more is what i see in Atiku that sets him apart. Lets take cue from this dogged democrat.
