Late Ado Bayero's Children Pay Homage To Sanusi Lamido

Children of late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero paid homage to the new emir Malam Muhammad Sanusi II at the weekend, a week after his appointment as emir..
Late Ado Bayero died Friday June 7, after spending over 50 years on the throne. The general belief was that the odds favoured his eldest son, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero, the Ciroma of Kano.
However, the kingmakers chose former Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi after two days of deliberations as well as consultations with the state governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
On Sunday last week, Kwankwaso confirmed Sanusi’s appointment, but the announcement was greeted by protest around the palace area and the adjoining streets.
The protest died down after two days but security forces took control of the palace while Sanusi held court at Kano Government House.
While the crises lasted, children of the late emir stayed away from paying homage to the new emir until Saturday, a move signalling the end of the challenge and dispute over Sanusi’s appointment. The weekend visit, however, became public knowledge only yesterday. Sources told Daily Trust that the emir does not hold court weekends but the tradition was waived to receive the visitors.
The children of the late Emir who visited Sanusi include Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, District Head of Dala; Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, District Head of Nasarawa, Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero, District Head of Fagge, Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Bayero, District Head of Sumaila and Alhaji Aliyu Ado Bayero, District Head of Kunchi.
During the visit last Saturday, our correspondent reports that the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Tijjani Hashim, was also at the palace to pay homage to the emir.
Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero and Ciroma of Kano initially thought to be the main contender was not there with his siblings but palace sources said he was outside the state for medical treatment.
However, on phone from Abuja yesterday Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero urged the people of the state to embrace peace.
“We are very much grateful with the outpouring, the concerns that the public has shown us over the demised of the Emir. We are very grateful for their sympathies and prayers that his soul may rest in peace.
“Also we want to express our gratitude for all the show of support after his death and the love they have shown to all of us his descendants. We pray that Allah will continue to support our people, keep the peace in our community and help us to forge ahead in this critical time we are going through. We thank you all and wish them peace,” he said.
Muhammad Sanusi II entered the palace on Friday after he left Kano State Government House where he had spent five days since his appointment as the successor to the late Bayero.
Meanwhile a delegation of Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, was at the palace yesterday to pay homage to the new emir.
Leader of the delegation and Magajin Garin Sokoto, Alhaji Hassan Danbaba said they were at the palace to congratulate Emir Sanusi II on his appointment as the 14th emir of Kano.
