The Federal Government has emphasized on strict maintenance culture in
relation to every asset, whether public or private, to avoid decay of
infrastructure.
President Goodluck Jonathan who was represented by the Vice President,
Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo today, Tuesday, at the commissioning of Sunday
Adewusi Housing Estate, Dakwa, Dei-Dei, Abuja, built by the Nigeria Police,
gave the charge, saying “it is sensible to always avoid eventual capital costs
by paying regular attention to an existing asset.”
President Jonathan commended the leadership of the Nigeria Police and
his management team “for their diligent implementation of the Housing project
in their quest to providing excellent accommodation for Men and Officers of the
Police Force which will motivate them towards effective and efficient service
delivery.”
He said “it is instructive and commendable to note that these 1000 units
of 3, 2 and 1 bedroom houses at Dakwa, Dei-Dei, Abuja were developed through
Public, Private Partnership between a reputable developer and the Police
Cooperative Society Ltd. which financed the project”.
While thanking the Nigeria Police Force under the present
Inspector-General Mohammed Abubakar, for building 2000 housing units just
in two years, President Jonathan noted that “Officers and Men who are
beneficiaries will pay for the houses through the National Housing Fund (NHF)
loans. The Nigeria Police Force had accesses to this facility, through the
Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN)”.
Jonathan said one of the key pillars of his administration’s
transformation agenda is the Public Private Partnership development model and
attention to practical mortgage and home financing, as he urged all sectors as
well as Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to emulate the Nigeria Police
Force.
Earlier, the Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Abduljelili Oyewale
Adesiyan, said the Housing Estate was built to enhance the welfare of Officers
and Men of the Nigeria Police as it will assist in the area of accommodation in
the FCT. He said the gesture will undoubtedly make the Police to
effectively carry out the mandate of maintaining internal security of the
nation.
In his remark, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed D. Abubakar,
said the vision behind the 1000 units of Sunday Adewusi Housing Estate through
Public Private Partnership, was to ease the housing deficit and provide
comfortable houses to the Nigeria Police. He also said the completion of
the 1000 housing units in Abuja was one of the earlier housing units to
be completed in all the states of the federation.
He noted that housing is the most important thing to human being and
those who work tirelessly day and night desire a decent accommodation hence the
execution of the housing estate.
Both the Chairmen Senate and House Committees on Police Affairs, Sen.
Paulinus Nwagwu and Hon. Usman Bello Kumo respectively as well as Chairman
Police Service Commission, Sir Mike Okiro, commended the Inspector-General of
Police and solicited more funding for all security agencies in order to deliver
timely and efficient service delivery.
