Emir Abdulmumini Kabir Usman of Katsina has stated that the current challenges confronting northern Nigeria were due to attitudes of northerners.
The emir stated this yesterday when he conferred traditional titles on acting chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Kabir Muhammad Mashi, Katsina commissioner of Agriculture, Musa Adamu Funtua and chief of staff to Governor Shema, Salisu Yusuf Majigiri.
He observed that Nigerians and indeed northerners are lamenting the region’s woes but few have bothered to ask why the north is in a fix noting that “our hearts are not pure that is why we are suffering”.
Emir Kabir said, for the region to experience continuous peaceful coexistence, the northerners must close ranks and be united, adding that unity remains the only way out.
“We must rally round one another and assist ourselves to help revive the north,” he enthused urging leaders to “embrace people, assist people and work with people.”
He assured that the emirate would not relent in defending the interest of the masses as according to him; the people remained the pride and source of inspiration for the emirate council.
While urging those conferred with the titles to see their elevation as additional responsibilities, the emir reaffirmed the need for them to sustain their humanitarian gestures.
Our correspondent reports that the turbaning ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including the richest black man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Senator Kabiru Gaya and representatives of state governors.
The emir turbaned the FIRS’ boss, Kabir Mashi as Kaigaman Katsina, commissioner Musa Adamu Funtua as Dankafin Katsina and the chief of staff to Katsina state governor, Salisu Yusuf Majigir as Garkuwan Gabas of Katsina.
