Death Toll In Kaduna Attack Rises To 123

DEATH toll has risen to 123, as more attacks were carried out on communities in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Wednesday.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State chapter, however, described the attack as barbaric
According to villagers who survived the onslaught, 37 corpses were found after the attack on Kabamu and Ankpong villages on Tuesday, while more attacks were carried out in Dogon Daji, Kobin, Naidu, Kabamu- Karshi Hayin Kwarta, Kabani and Gani, where 86 people were killed.
The government had since imposed a curfew on the affected communities.
According to a native of the area, “15 people have been killed in our community, nine in Daji, 20 in Kobin, seven in Naidu, 18 in Kabamu-Karshi, six in Hayin Kwarta, six in Kabani and five in Gani.
“The situation is now calm, as security personnel were dispatched on Tuesday, but the challenge is that most of the villages are not easily accessible.”
A local council official who preferred anonymity added that “at present, we cannot give a definite number of people that have been killed, because in some of the villages that were attacked, it is difficult to bring out corpses to Gwantu. But we learnt the number has been put at 123.
“We believe that the casualty figure is more than this, because a lot of people are still missing. Hundreds of people from villages have relocated to Gwantu and are staying in refugee camps,” he said.
“The Fulani militants are well armed with AK 47 rifles. The villagers are very helpless. They don’t have anything to defend themselves apart from sticks and machetes,” a community leader said.
CAN secretary, Reverend Sunday Ibrahim, while urging the government to step up security in Southern Kaduna, said “the casualties are now in hundreds because other villages have been attacked.”
He said the attackers were Fulani, adding that “it’s something you cannot hide. The people that carry out the attacks are terrorists and Fulani by tribe. The decent Fulani we know won’t kill people mercilessly.”
