A total of 500 top management staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday, received International Computer Driving License (ICDL) certification after three months of extensive training programme.
ICDL is recognised as an international standard for end-user computing skills and is endorsed by a number of universities, colleges and schools in about 120 countries in the world.
It certifies that the holder has the knowledge and skill needed to use the most common applications practically and productively.
Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of FRSC, Mr Osita Chidoka, speaking at a brief ceremony for presentation of certificates to the successful participants, stressed that all FRSC staff must embrace ICT, in order to continue to work with the organisation.
He said the Nigerian government had made ICDL a minimum qualification for employment into any government establishment in the past and that FRSC would try to enforce it.
He said: “The world is divided between digital and non-digital world and any organisation that wants to make progress must embrace ICT.
“I am aware that Nigerian government made ICDL a minimum qualification for employment into any government establishment.”
He said even though that was a decision taken some years ago, but “FRSC wanted to make it a basic criteria for your progress in the organisation because we can’t function any more in the analogue mode.
“We can no longer go to look through files. Every information we have now is digitally stored and we want all our staff capable of utilising it, but we cannot start punishing people for not being digital when we have not train them.
Chidoka said the training programme anchored by E-Tech Complete Solutions Nigeria Limited was designed to enhance their capacity to function effectively in a digital environment, adding that the training programme would cascade to all the corps.
Chairman of E-Tech Complete Solutions, Mr Abdulhakeen Mustapha, said ICDL certification was recognised in 120 countries around the world and that FRSC had partnered with the company to deliver it to their staff.
