Former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria , Segun
Arinze has berated the Director General of the Nigeria Film and Video Censors
Board over her refusal to approve the release of Chimamanda Adichie’s movie.
Here is Segun's statement.
Please tell Madam
Patricia Bala ,the DG Nigeria film and video censors board to release the Movie
half of a yellow sun. She has no reason to hold on to the movie. She has no
right to censor the movie only to classify it. She saw it in Canada and even partnered
with the producers in Canada during the premiere. What she is doing now is an
embarrassment to government and a big insult to our dear industry Nollywood. We
are not in a Military regime. She should kindly resign. - Segun Arinze
Another Veteran Film Producer Tunde
Alabi-hundeyin Dudu also has this to say about the DG’s insistence that
some portion of the movie should be removed.
How many films have
BOKO people watched that triggered their bloodletting. Do you think work of art
and creativity can just be cut away like the bad part of a yam and you continue
eating the rest. If they remove that part do you think the rest of the story
will have meaning. It's just a nation of incompetent people. Disgusting .
The DG is just deceiving herself thinking d truth can be covered. The story in half of a yellow sun is abt what d Nigerian state did 2 d Ibos during d civil war, which was reiterated in anoda book titled " In Biafra, Africa died" The pogrom dat was commited against d Ibos during d civil war cannot be wished away. The authorities are scared of d negative impact d film might have if any true ibo son gets hold of it. We already know what d Nigerian State did 2 d Ibos during d civil war wit d assistance of d British govt. Today d perpetrators are being judged, God is using their sons to be wiping dem away and destroying dia infrastrures and dia means of lively hood. No matter how long it takes d movie must be released as d truth cannot be hidden.
