Residents of
the neighbourhood around the train station in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital,
were thrown into mourning Monday when they discovered the headless body
of a middle-aged man who must have been crushed by the train.
A check showed
that the train was Kano-bound but had a brief stopover in Ilorin
The
incident, according to eyewitnesses, occurred at Isaac Mowo Street, opposite
the Ilorin office of Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
A visit to
the scene of the accident yesterday reveals the headless body of the accident
victim, with his severed limbs was still lying on the rail track with hordes of
flies swarming on the corpse, which had started
decomposing.
The identity
of the man was yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
However, a
source at the station said that the superintendent station officer of the
Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Ilorin, had been briefed about the incident,
with a promise that the corpse would be evacuated soon.
Similarly, a
senior official of NRC, who sought anonymity, confirmed the accident, saying:
“The management is making effort to evacuate the lifeless body of the man for
burial.”
