Edwin Clark's Wife Eye Ogun Senatorial Seat

Wife of Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, Dr Abisola Sodipo-Clark, on Monday, said she was qualified to contest any political seat in Ogun State.
She said thi...s while fielding questions from newsmen, shortly after her visit to the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, which confirmed speculations that she was eyeing a senatorial seat in Ogun Central senatorial district, a seat formerly occupied by her friend, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello.
Dr Shodipo-Clark, who hails from Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state, said the purpose of her visit was to consult with leaders of the party and also to renew her membership card.
The chairperson of the governing board, National Ear Hospital, Kaduna, commended Nigerian women for their role in nation-building and insisted that she was eminently qualified to contest any political seat in her home state in 2015.
She was received by the state party chairman, Chief Adebayo Dayo and secretary, Alhaji Semiu Shodipo, among other members of the party.
She said, “I’m not going to say no and I’m not going to say yes. What I’m here for is to consult. I’m somebody that believes in wide consultation and I believe that if somebody is going to take a step in a democracy, you need to consult with your leaders, with your elders and with other women, so that when we join hands together, things can be built up properly.
“Therefore, I’m here to pick the card but I’m also interested in consultations. But in saying that, I am eminently qualified for any position I am asked to take. I’m a medical doctor, also I have many chieftaincy titles from this state, I’m a former commissioner for health in this state, I’m a WHO Fellow. I’m also a chairman of a teaching hospital, so I’m eminently qualified in many areas to be called upon to do anything.
“Women are family builders. Therefore, they should also move towards being nation-builders as well. I am pleased that in this government of President Goodluck Jonathan, we are now having over 35 per cent of women being represented at the executive level. I believe this should be replicated at every level of governance and also of private structures."
