General Officer Commanding newly created 7 Division of Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmed Mohammmed Wednesday escaped death by the whiskers as soldiers under his command fired shots at him.
Wednesday’s mutiny, which occured in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State capital, may be the biggest “friendly” blow yet on Nigerian Army’s war against Boko Haram terrorists.
However, Mohammed’s bodyguards and aides were not so lucky as they sustained gunshot wounds from angry soldiers.
The attack on the General and his men reportedly occurred when the GOC visited the cantonment.
Maimalari cantonment is headquarters of 7 Division, the newest Division of Nigerian Army.
Military sources said that soldiers at the cantonment had been complaining of insufficient ammunition, food and good allowances prior to the GOC’s visit.
They were also reportedly unhappy and their morale at its lowest because there has not been troop rotation for a long time since their deployment to combat Boko Haram terrorists in the North East.
“The GOC’s visit coincided with the arrival of the corpses of soldiers killed in an ambush in Chibok on Tuesday night.
“The apparently agitated soldiers, on sighting the corpses of their slain colleagues became hysteric. Some opened fire on the GOC, who was lucky to have escaped unhurt. However, the bullets hit and seriously injured some of his bodyguards, who also fled to safety,” the source offered.
The Army High Command could not be immediately reached for reaction.

ReplyDeleteThe soldiers are begining to realise the wicked and evil plan of GEJ and CAN against the muslims and the north
ReplyDeleteDiscerning Nigerians wont be surprise at dis development as we have been xpecting dis mutiny since. The soldiers have complained severally of their poor living conditions since they were posted to maiduguri. They complained of dia allowances being slashed. How can u xpect a man dat is paid a paltry sum to confront boko haram dat is paid 500k on recruitment knowing quite well dat if he dies his family will not be taken care of and his entitlement will not be paid on time. It was even reported that soldiers on Nigerian side were leaving to join boko haram becos of d motivation dia. Gov Shettima said it dat our soldiers are ill motivated and he was criticised. I know dat if our soldiers are well motivated boko haram would have been history as we are judged the best military in Africa. Imagine soldiers weilding Ak-47 wit solo tape confronting a better equiped boko haram. The crux of d matter is dat our military is corrupt. I wish d authorities shld not punish d files involved but rather probe d ranks dat have been improvishing d files. The locals are now securing themselves. God will help Nigeria.
