About
four months after the executive laid the 2014 budget before the National
Assembly, the Senate Wednesday passed the Appropriation Bill into law.
Whereas
the executive proposed the sum of N4.642 trillion as total expenditure for the
2014 fiscal year, the upper chamber jacked up the figure by N53 billion, thus
bringing the total sum passed to N4.695 trillion.
Of
the total budget figure, N2.454 trillion was approved as recurrent expenditure
while the sum of N1.119 trillion was approved as capital expenditure.
Besides,
while N408.6 billion of the budget is meant for statutory transfers, another
N712 billion is for debt service.
I commend the Senate for incresing this budget. The Executive has failed in the aspect of raising enough money to fulfil d budget and yet they blame oil theft as they cause. If oil theft still happens why don't we stop the amnesty program. Or is it that the program is a way of jonathan and his cronies of eating up our common wealth. This budget just means d this administration is really interested in paying more attention to d public sevants bcus election is around the corner. I want Govt to further reduce the salary of lawmakers bcus providing 150 billion to them is not in the society's interest bcus over 60 percent will be used to just satisfy there salary and allowances. Govt must reduce all its agencies to encourage fastness. I believe we also have d human resource 2 make this happen. God willing our country is still a Blessing to us all.
