TWO members of the Osun State House of Assembly, on Thursday night, in
Osogbo, reportedly assaulted the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of Dada Estate
Police Station inside the station.
Although there were conflicting reports as to what led to the clash, it
was learnt that an attempt by one of the legislators, Honourable Femi Fafiyebi,
to make a U-turn in front of the police station caused his arrest.
Fafiyebi, who represents Obokun Constituency, alleged that the
Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Abimbola Akinbowale, assaulted him and his
colleague at the station.
It was gathered that trouble started when Fafiyebi’s colleague,
Honourable Taiwo Adeyemi, representing Ayedaade Constituency, went to find out
the reason Fafiyebi delayed in coming back to pick him and a lawyer, Mr Muyiwa
Olanrewaju.
The DCO was said to be condemning the rowdy situation at the station
when a physical confrontation developed between her and the lawmakers.
A source said that the DCO had already filed a petition against the alleged assault by the lawmakers.

However, at a press conference, on Friday, Fafiyebi claimed that it was
the DCO that grabbed his cloth and tore it in the heat of an argument over the
turning of his vehicle in front of the police station.
“My cloth was torn. I wonder what could have happened if I were not a
member of the House of Assembly. I would have been detained just for making a
U-turn in front of a police station, Fafiyebi said.
Contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Maishanu, in a
text message to Saturday Tribune, said “I am not aware and the matter has not
been reported to me.”
But the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Folasade Odoro, confirmed
the development, saying the lawmakers were arrested in the early hours when
they came into into the premises of the police station with their vehicle,
adding that they overstayed in the vicinity.
