The convoy of Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his counterpart from
Imo State, Rochas Okorocha was to the rescue during a reign of anarchy at Gbagi
area of Ibadan on Friday.
There was commotion in the area as hoodlums suspected to be members of
the National Union of Road Transport Workers engaged themselves in deadly
fight.
Guns and other deadly weapons were used by the hoodlums during the fight
that lasted for about one hour.
Police presence was noticed in the area, especially in front of the two
federal establishments, Central Bank and Radio Nigeria, located in the troubled
axis, as traders quickly closed their shops while commuters ran to safety.
The convoy of the two governors, according to a release issued by the
Special Adviser to Governor Ajimobi, Festus Adedayo, was coming from the burial
ceremony of the mother of Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN) and was on its way to the
Rochas Okorocha Foundation when sporadic shots were heard from the hoodlums.
Stampede from the adjoining markets was also witnessed by the two
governors.
The release stated that the governors’ security came to the aid of the
fleeing traders to dislodge the hoodlums before reinforcement was called from
the police headquarters and the state crime-fighting outfit, Operation Burst.
Police Public Relation Officer of the Oyo State Command, Olabisi
Ilobanefor, was yet to confirm the incident as her phone rang without response
while text message sent was not replied
Agberos are sponsored by goverment to help them rig elections therefor, it is difficult to erratic ate them from Nigerian society. They constitute nuisance any where they are found . They feel that they are above the law. The people must do something about Agbero now.
