Okada Ban Is A No Go Area..Union Tells Incoming Anambra Gov

Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria (MUTN), an umbrella of commercial motorcyclists, Anambra State Branch has reminded the in-coming governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano that the issue of Okada ban should not be discussed at all in his administration as the body promised to give him maximum support the way it gave the out-going Governor Peter Obi.
Speaking with Saturday Sun yesterday in Nnewi, the Anambra State Chairman of the union, Chief Jude Udegbe said that the rumour making the rounds that the in-coming governor has the intention to ban Okada in the state should be disregarded, saying that the rumour might be coming from the enemies of the state.
“Governor Obiano should not talk about banning Okada in Anambra. That is a no-go area. Of course, we know that he cannot do that because during the campaign Obiano called for our support and I mobilised our men in the 21 local government areas to canvass for votes after meeting one-on-one with him. And when he flagged off his campaigns in Awka, we all campaigned for him vigorously. And I do not think after doing all these things for him he will go ahead to ban Okada, “Chief Udegbe said.
He reasoned that since the crime wave in Anambra had drastically reduced  which he said was the major reason for Okada ban, no situation, according to him, called for the ban.
“If you look at Anambra, the crime rate has drastically reduced and you talk about banning Okada when criminal activities like kidnapping and armed robbery are on the increase. If you mention three states in Nigeria that are crime-free, Anambra must be one of them; where the citizens can now sleep with both eyes closed. So the state is now a no-go area for criminals, “Udegbe noted.
On the leadership crisis rocking the Okada union in Anambra, Udegbe assured that he was still in full control although he admitted that someone from the union had sought to be recognised as the leader of the union despite the fact that he (Udegbe) was, according to him, made the caretaker committee chairman at the state level by the national body pending when election would be conducted.
