Fifteen Boko Haram escapees were rearrested after a
jail break attempt at the SSS detention camp in Abuja yesterday.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Director of SSS Merlyn
Ogah while speaking on a TV programme this morning monitored by CKN Nigeria
from Abuja
Ms Ogah said eight of the inmates refused to partake in
the escape bid.
She also confirmed that 21 of the detainees were killed
during the uprising.
According to her, all attempts to persuade the Boko
Haram member that attacked and disarm the SSS official who went in to feed them
to drop his arm was refused.
She said the inmate after overpowering the SSS official
was shooting indiscriminately. The gun according to her had about ninety rounds
of ammunition.
Ms Ogah debunked insinuation in certain quarters that
the agency was attacked and requested the cooperation of the media especially
the so called social media critics to be sure of their facts before publishing.
Pushed to speak further on the state of the facility at
the SSS detention camp,Ms Ogah said the agency treated the detainees as
awaiting trial inmates not as condemned criminals but regretted that they took advantage
of the privileges accorded to make an escape.
She said investigation is on going to determine the
remote causes of the escape bid.
According to her, all the inmates were accounted for, none
of them is roaming around or escaped.
She couldn’t give an account of the high casualty
recorded since they were said to be armed with only one gun.
Ms Ogar is being economical with the truth. If only one inmate disarmed a police man, how come they killed 21 boko haram members.
