Woman Drowns Her New Born Baby In Bayelsa

There was indignation and anger in Kaiama community, the headquarters of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State when a 27-year-old mother drowned her baby a few hours after delivery.

The lady, Miss Erebi Amgba, was reported to have delivered the baby on her own by the river at about 3a.m. on Saturday.
Immediately after the delivery, she proceeded to drown the child who was still with the umbilical cord attach to it.

It was gathered that someone who by chance came to the riverside to defecate saw what happened and raised the alarm.
Before delivery, the young woman was said to have tried all she could to conceal the pregnancy.
Even though a number of her relations suspected that she was pregnant, nobody knew she was close to delivery as at the time of the incident.

She was said to be in the town staying with her grandfather when she gave birth to the child.
The police are said to have waded into the case to know the reason why she did what she did.
Contacted, the police spokesman said he was not aware of the incident and could not comment on it.
