Segun Arinze,Desmond Elliot Speak To CKN..Goodluck Was Misquoted On Nollywood

Reaction has continued to trail the statement credited to President Goodluck Jonathan that NOLLYWOOD (Nigeria’s movie industry) is more important than the Nigerian media.

President Goodluck Jonathan was quoted as saying this while receiving in audience, an avalanche of Nollywood practitioners under the umbrella body of Actors Guild of Nigeria at  Aso Villa yesterday.

But reacting to the report this morning, two top Nollywood actors who were part of the entourage, Mr Desmond Elliot and Segun Arinze, former President of the Guild who spoke separately this morning in Abuja with CKN Nigeria,said the report was a complete misrepresentation of what the President said.

According to them, the President only made reference to the media and Nollywood in the context of grassroot mobilization.

Hear Segun Arinze,the President never said Nollywood was more important than Media. What he said was that after media, the next most important form of mobilization of people especially at the grassroot level is through movies.

This according to him is the fact, since most of the actions could be captured on camera and acted visually for people to see.

Desmond Elliot corroborated same, CKN, the President didn’t put it that way, quote me,he said.

President Goodluck Jonathan was only making reference to issues like agriculture where he said he believes with proper demonstration of farming methodology on video using known Nollywood actors, the message will easily get to the grassroots.

Based on this premise, Mr President said he will be happy to work with Nollywood to make sure that some of these visions are properly documented through movies for people to see.

So abeg, make una no cause war between Nollywood ,Media and oga o because all of us na the same ,they echoed in pidgin English.
