The Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday arrested a passenger with $ 1, 909,140 (about N320 million), which he concealed in his luggage without declaring it to customs officials at the currency desk on arrival into the country.

Customs said his non declaration of the exact amount he came into the country with is gross violation of extant regulations as it affects the movement of large sums of foreign currency into Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists, the public relations officer, of the Airport Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Mrs Thelma Williams identified the passenger as one Mr Ani Paulinus  Onyeka, who came into the country aboard Asky Airlines flight from Congo Democratic Republic .
She said the passenger did not declare the exact amount he concealed in his luggage, which was discovered after physical examination by customs personnel at the baggage hall of the airport.

  1. Everybody should ensure that nothing happens to that hard earned money. This is a man bringing in funds into the country and somebody that has never contributed to the growth of our economy is there talking nonsense. Now that you know how much he is carrying, what is the offence. Many people do not declare fully what they have for fear of thieves especially those in uniforms, I know what am saying. That money should be given back to the owner and he should be released forthwith with apologies. We should encourage more people to bring in FX into the country. Other countries are doing that. Our main worry should be the ones leaving Nigeria. Sometimes, I wonder what is wrong with us; fighting too hard to stop export of drugs but losing the battle against importation of same drugs into the country. The result is creating artificial surplus in the country and making it available for use locally. We must use our brains people!
