New Speaker |
The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Gambo Sallau, has resigned his position, while a new speaker, Hon. Isyaku Ali Danja, from Gezawa constituency, has been elected.
Sallau said his reason for resigning from the position was based on his decision not to defect to another party.
In a radio broadcast in Kano yesterday, Sallau said: “I, Gambo Sallau, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, hereby announced my resignation as the Speaker which is based on political reasons.
He added: “Now that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has become an opposition party, I will not continue to be the Speaker of the assembly.”
The former Speaker also commended members of the assembly, the state government and the public for the support they had gave him in the last two years.
Meanwhile, Hon. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari has emerged the deputy speaker while Kabiru Alhassan Rano was elected majority leader.

Kudos! A show of such principle is very rare in Nigeria. It's politicians like this that the country needs. It's instructive that he is a PDP member.
