Adamawa
State Deputy Governor, Bala James Nggilari, Wednesday refuted a media report
that he was supporting the activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the
North-eastern part of the country.
Speaking to
journalists at his official residence in Yola, the state capital, Nggilari said
with his humble background, he could not in any way subscribed to the activities
of the insurgents stressing that he cannot support the killings of
innocent people.
He said he
did not grant any interview where he said he was supporting the activities of
the Boko Haram sect expressing surprise that a national newspaper alleged that he was backing the Boko Haram insurgents who were going about
killing innocent people.
“By my
humble background, I can never subscribe to the killing of human beings. There
was no time I granted anybody interview where l said l am supporting the
killings of people, no religion or reasonable persons would support such
illicit act and I will also not support such act,” he said
According to
him, the newspaper misunderstood what he said last Saturday while he was
addressing the gathering of a non-governmental organisation, Citizens Network
for Peace Development in Nigeria (CNPDN) which invited him as the guest of
honour at the inauguration of its office in the state.
The deputy
governor said he told the gathering that there can never be meaningful
development in the absence of peace and called on Nigerians to partake in the
development of peace.
He added
that he only drew the attention of the people to the fact that injustice,
inequity and dearth of good governance might be the root cause of violence.
Nggilari noted that in an atmosphere of equity, justice, fairness and good governance, the rate of violence would be reduced to the barest minimum.

He said he
also emphasised on the fact that politicians should provide good governance
with equity and justice adding that he also told the gathering that in those
days when he was a young boy living in the rural areas they were provided with
social amenities, as he stressed that the only thing that could deprive one
from schooling up to the university level was because the person was dull or
lazy.
The deputy
governor said they had the opportunity to study with the children of the rich
and competed with them in the same class but today the story is different
adding he was speaking on that premises because the organisation objective was
to promote good governance across the country.
Nggilari
expressed shock that the headline of the story in the newspaper did not
synchronised with the content of the story stressing that he was only calling
on politicians to embrace peace and good governance as panacea to violence.
