Former
President Olusegun Obasanjo has restated his opposition to the second term bid
of President Goodluck Jonathan, insisting that the president is reneging on his
promise before the 2011 elections to serve only one term.
“President Jonathan said, not only once, twice, publicly, not only inside Nigeria, outside Nigeria, that he would have one term, and said that to me,” a report Wednesday by Bloomberg quoted Obasanjo as saying in an interview in London.
Jonathan has been in power since his predecessor, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua died in office in 2010. When he won in 2011, he broke an unwritten convention within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rotate power between the South and the North. Jonathan, 56, has not yet said whether he would stand for re-election in a vote scheduled for 2015.
“One of the things that is very important in the life of any man or any person, is that he will be a man or a person of his word,” Obasanjo said. “If you decide your word should not be taken seriously that’s entirely up to you.”
Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, couldn’t be reached on his mobile phone for comment as it was switched off.
Obasanjo, who backed Jonathan’s presidential campaign four years ago, declined to say whether Jonathan should or should not stand for re-election.
OBJ should leave GEJ alone, after all he was in power for eight years and he also wanted to go for third term but luck was nt on his side.
ReplyDeleteOBJ is a BIG FOOL for saying this.
ReplyDeleteMAy be u want iyabo to write another letter.
ReplyDeleteOBJ ruled 1st as a military dictator and as a civilian for total of 12yrs and still wanted a third term. Old selfish man pls leave Jonathan alone. Ʊ couldn't deceive him like Ʊ deceived Odili, why are Ʊ angry? Is Nigeria ɣ☺ΰr personal farm? Old man go and rest.
ReplyDeleteObj is speaking the truth,I withness gej on his swearing in as a president,he said he will served only one term,we should speak the truth no matter what.
ReplyDeletePls gimi a break. How many of Dem. Eventually do wat dey say deyl do? Wtz d big deal if GEJ goes again? Is it a crime? Is der a written law against it? OBJ needs 2 get ova his hurt. I'm sure he tot he cld manipulate GEJ. D player got playd if u ask me.

ReplyDeleteWhy does many Nigerians don't like d truth,d truth is dat dis guy promises not to go 4 another terms bcause in d first place d slot doesn't belong to South in which he belongs but 4 d fact that d unexpected happened dat was y he had d opportunity so he should allow d people that owns d slot to get it after he has serve part of their tenure nd he is serving extral tenure again
ReplyDeleteHow come is the southern nigeria is always being represented by the Yoruba's (South wes)t, but not the South South or the South east? Or is Obasonjo saying that Nigeria belong's 2 just the Yoruba's and the Hausa's/Fulani's? No wonder the power has been rotating between the Yoruba's and the Hausa's/Fulani's right from the time of Yakubu Gowon. To God be the glory that Yah'Adua past on 4 power wouldn't have gotten 2 the SS or SE till thy kingdom come. Obasonjo and all those that re crying 4 Goodluck agreed 2 serve only one term or resignation after one tenure re Big FOOLS
ReplyDeleteObasanjo is a comfused man, after serving almost 12yrs both minitery nd civilian,he still looking for another way to control Goodluck in power.Goodluck just serve only 4yrs,every body is shouting. If he is not interested in the power,he should hand over to South East for peace to rain.without that that,This country will not have peace.believe it or not.
ReplyDeleteMy Brother there has never been peace in Nigeria. D Hausa-Fulanis D Yorubas n D Igbos should kindly forget d leadership of dis country n give chance to d so called minorities 4 some decades to come.
Delete@Abasanjo is a confused man.Yes my brother I support u
ReplyDeleteShow us the video recordings where GEJ said he will do only one term. 4 those who said he signed a document, publish it 4 Nigerians 2 read. He has on several occasions challenged u detractors to prove that but no way. So leave him alone.
ReplyDeleteThis man who wanted third term is holding another person to a promise made to him not to contest for a second term slot. I recall how General Yakubu Gowon was insulted for admonishing General Obasanjo not to desecrate our constitution through his inordinate ambition before the senate truncated his plans. This is Olusegun Obasanjo in his element with his bloated ego, what matters is Jonathan's promise to him he cares less on Jonathan's promise to one hundred and fifty million Nigerians.
ReplyDeleteJonathan is more confuse than any Nigerian . Look at the enormous amount he is using to induce reps and senators to decamp to,PDP . This is the height of corruption . Sincerely , Jonathan agreed to run for only one term , that was why he was supported by the north in 2015 . He has reneged on the agreement just like what he did with ASUU . Am certain he will not return in 2015 by Gods grace.
ReplyDeleteOfuchi and Rapheal na bunch of foolish and untrained children, insulting elders anyhow. OBJ Nigeria is not yours, nor for yoruba's or Hausa's. SS is also Nigeria infact THE MAIN Nigeria resources wise. So leave GEJ alone, aftEr him Igbo's will rule,
ReplyDeleteAre the ibos heariing ? Obasanjo has become the shadow of himself , and now he has spoken words that can trigger another war ! His nemesis must catch up with him at full circle !
