The upcoming
2.3Ghz spectrum auction that opens Wednesday in Abuja to license a wholesale
broadband provider for the Nigerian telecoms market may turn out David versus
Goliath duel.
The telecoms
regulator, which is midwifing the frequency spectrum sale, has announced that
Globacom, the Second National Operator (SNO) owned by Nigerian business mogul,
Mike Adenuga Jnr will be pitted against little-known Bitflux Communications, as
they are the only two companies bidding in the two-day spectrum auctions.
Technology Times checks reveal that little-known Bitflux
Communications, one of the two companies pre-qualified as “Approved Bidders”
for the auction is being promoted by Biodun Omoniyi, Managing Director/CEO, VDT
Communications, a Lagos-based broadband communication service provider.
Barring any
last minute change, Omoniyi’s Bitflux Communications will enter into the race
for the wholesale broadband service licence against the nation’s SNO, in what
analysts consider an unequal match.
