The APC Reps in the House of Representatives yesterday said they will abide by the directive of their party that members of the party in the National Assembly should block all proposals from the Presidency till the rule of law is restored in Rivers State.
The measures include blocking the consideration of the 2014 budget and ministerial nominees and the confirmation of new Service Chiefs, among others.
In a statement titled: “APC Reps still committed to good governance” and signed by his Personal Research Assistant, Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart, the Minority Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, said such “extraordinary measures” is meant to ensure good governance.
The statement reads: “The House Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, wishes to restate the progressive lawmakers’ commitment to good governance in Nigeria.
“The progressive lawmakers would not truncate the country’s hard earned democracy. We will do what we need to do to ensure good governance in our country.
“Government shutdown or filibustering is nothing new in party politics the world over. When government wasn’t shut down and successive budgets were passed, of what benefit has it been to the common man?
“The end justifies the means; the end in this context being good governance and the means extraordinary measures such as this.”

ReplyDeleteReal democracy has arrived Nigeria with the coming of APC and I know they will use their strength to check and balance democratic policies, especially where there is glaring impunity, as we often see in Rivers state. With this new approach by APC will cut PDP to her real size. This is Goodnews.
ReplyDeleteThis is a welcome development and it's good for democracy.those that are criticizing the apc over this move may not be conversant with the political happenings in the world.even the U.S. democracy that we claimed to be imitating, the republican members of the house of reps shutdown the government when president Obama refused to drop the obamacare health policy.
