National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Bamanga
Tukur has sent four party elders from his home state of Adamawa to two
governors to save his job.
The emissaries met with governors Jonah Jang of Plateau State and
Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom to get their support ahead of the National
Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.
The two governors are members of the NEC which is expected to meet tomorrow where the issue of the Tukur’s resignation has been put on the front burner.
The Adamawa elders are retired Air Commodore Dan Suleiman, General Anthony Haladu Hananiya, Dr, Umar Ardo and Wilberforce Juta, a former governor.
They met with Tukur at about 11 am in his Wuse11 residence in Abuja yesterday where it was resolved that the elders meet the two governors in their capacities as chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) recognised by President Goodluck Jonathan and chairman of the PDP Governors Forum respectively.
The meeting, sources said, decided to include the Akwa Ibom State governor among those to be visited because he is believed to be one of those insisting that Tukur should go in order to pave way for the emergence of a new chairman for the party.
The outcome of the meeting with the governors, according to a source, would determine the posture Tukur will take in reaction to the bid to remove him from Office.
One of the members of the committee, Dr. Ardo when contacted, confirmed the setting up of the committee.
He said, “We decided to explore this option with the national chairman as we agreed that it would not be right to take any action without hearing from them since they hold key positions on behalf of the party and our position would be decided by the outcome of the meeting with them,” he stated.
