Almost
four months after he sacked nine ministers, President Goodluck Jonathan, has
compiled a list of their replacements and possibly the names of nominees for
two other vacancies in the Defence and Youth Development Ministries to be sent
to the National Assembly, which will resume from the yuletide holiday on
January 14.
The
president who broke the news at a meeting yesterday in Abuja with Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains from the North-west geopolitical zone, did
not however give details on those he had picked to fill the vacancies in his
cabinet.
The
president on September 11, had sacked six ministers and three ministers of
state and appointed some of the remaining ministers to supervise ministries
where the ministers had been sacked.
The
sacked ministers were Mrs. Hadiza Ibrahim Mailafa (Environment), Dr. Shamsudden
Usman (National Planning); Prof Ruqayyatu Rufa’i (Education); Prof. Ita Okon
Bassey Ewa (Science and Technology); Ms. Ama Pepple (Housing and Urban
Development); and Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru (Foreign Affairs).
Also
sacked were the Ministers of State for Agriculture, Bukar Tijani Borno;
Defence, Mrs. Olusola Obada and Power, Mrs. Zainab Kuchi.
Previously,
the president had also relieved Dr. Mohammed Haliru Bello of his position as the
Minister of Defence and Alhaji Inuwa Abdulakadir from the Ministry of Youth
Development.
The
president thanked the zonal party chiefs, led by Haliru Bello for the visit and
seized the occasion to assure them that despite the crisis in the party, PDP would
remain the dominant party in Nigeria.
Jonathan
also reeled out the achievements of his administration in key sectors of the
economy such as education, power and agriculture and urged the people to rally
round his government to ensure the success of its transformation agenda

ReplyDeleteIf you like appoint emirs children as minister, you can never rule this country called Nigeria again. You are the greatest failure we have ever had as president . Your divide and rule tactics will never work again . You are a colossal failure.
ReplyDeleteMr. President should use this opportunity to sack all the controversial ministers in his cabinet, (Oduah & and her colleagues), who have lost public confidence with Nigerians. It doesn't matter whether they are culpable or not, wrong or right, indicted or not. Elsewhere, we have read of top government officials resigning from their top seats on moral grounds or mere intention to defraud. If Mr. President doesn't do this, (even with all the protests and hues and cries from Nigerians), then it must be that this President is something else, and the prophets and seers must start telling us something else about him.
