As part of on-going
repositioning and re-alignment towards realizing its 2014 strategic goals, the
Federal Road Safety Commission has re-deployed 4 Deputy Corps Marshals.
According to the FRSC Corps Public Education
Officer, Corps Commander Jonas Agwu, the recent exercise also affected 4
Assistant Corps Marshals and 2 Corps Commanders, in partial fulfillment of the
Commission’s projection to achieve a 15% reduction in road crashes and 25%
decrease in fatalities by the end of 2014.
Speaking further, Jonas said, “details of the
redeployment of the senior officers indicate that Deputy Corps Marshal, Boboye
Oyeyemi who was before this development, in charge of the Operations Department,
has been moved to the Motor Vehicle Administration Department while Deputy
Corps Marshal Garba Danjuma, moves over to the Operations Department from
the Motor Vehicle Administration Department”.
In the same, he added that, “ there was a swap of
portfolios with the Deputy Corps Marshal, Training, Standards and
Certification, Chidi Nwachukwu moving over to the Administration and Human
Resources Department while Deputy Corps Marshal Adei Abu leaves the
Administration and Human Resources Department to take over affairs at the
Training, Standards and Certification Department”.
Continuing, Jonas said that the former Zonal
Commanding Officer in charge of Lagos Zonal Command headquarters,
Assistant Corps Marshal(ACM), Ademola Lawal, is now in charge
of Administrative matters of the Command, Administration and
Strategy Section of the Operations Department at the national
headquarters while the former Zonal Commanding Office in charge of the
Abuja Zonal Command Headquarters in Gwagwalada, Assistant Corps Marshal
(ACM) Austin Aipo, will handle Operational matters at the
Command, Administration and Strategy Section of the same Operations
Department.
Similarly, the former Zonal Commanding
Officer at Yola Zonal Command Headquarters, Assistant Corps Marshal Bitrus
Darwang has been redeployed to Bauchi as Zonal Commanding Officer while
Assistant Corps Marshal Abubakar Ringim, who was formerly at Bauchi, moves over
to Yola as Zonal Commanding Officer.
For the Corps Commanders, the former Ag. Head of
the Safety and Engineering Department, Efosa Osawe, has been
deployed to the Motor Vehicle Administration Department as Head of the National
Drivers License Section while Olakunle Motajo who was formerly at Kogi
State as Sector Commander, is now the Ag. Head of the Safety Engineering
Department at the national headquarters, Abuja.
The Corps Public Education Officer added that the
recent appointments takes immediate effect and re-iterated that the
exercise is envisaged to enhance the Commission’s on-going re-positioning
process towards realizing the 2014 strategic goals, in keeping with the UN
Decade of Action on Road Safety.
It will be recalled that in a recent press
briefing, the FRSC Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka had outlined
the Commission’s strategic goals for 2014 to include improved regulatory and
enforcement capacity such as fast-tracked enforcement on the speed limiter use
on vehicle to curtail the excesses of commercial vehicles which will reduce
crashes involving this category of vehicles by 30% and increased deployment of
FRSC operatives along critical corridors of the highways to address the spate
of increase in road crashes.
The Corps Marshal also stated that the FRSC will in
2014, promote massive use of breathalyzers, strengthen the use of
radar guns to regulate speed of motorists, increased monitoring of motor parks,
implementation of the standard school bus scheme, compulsory use of the
retro-reflective tape and rear light by commercial vehicles among other
additional projections towards reducing road crashes by 2014.
