Obasanjo Latest Response To Goodluck Jonathan's Letter

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said on Monday he would not dignify President Goodluck Jonathan’s letter to him with a reply, stating that he had performed his duty to the president, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Nigeria with his December 2 letter.

Chief Obasanjo, who spoke through his aide, Tunde Oladunjoye, at a press conference at the former president’s Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said although had received several requests from local and international media, asking him to respond to the president’s letter, he would prefer to keep his promise in his letter to maintain silence..

“Since the publication of the letter written by the President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, we have received several requests from local and international media asking to know Chief Obasanjo’s reaction to Mr President’s response,” Mr. Oladunjoye said.

“One, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo acknowledges Mr President’s letter/response. However,Baba, as he already indicated in his December 2,2013 letter, does not wish to make further comments beyond the contents of his last letter to Mr President or react to the said letter/response from Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. I will maintain my serenity, because by this letter, I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria.”..

  5. No reasonable Nigerian should expect Baba Obasanjo to reply the current president's powerful action letter in reply to his. But it is a serious obligation for Obasanjo to do himself and the nation good by substantiating on the areas of his allegations which Jonathan considered he was baseless and unfactual and a mere gossip, in other words a saboteur. Particularly Jonathan challenged Obasanjo to provide proof to the training of killer squad and snipers by the presidency. Obasanjo has really put himself in a tight box and his relevance will link to how he mediates with Jonathan to prove his case of questionable allegations. He was also asked to apologize which he must do without a waste of time. Let him tell the nation that he misspoke and his letter withdrawn. He never any longer be right and remain credible if he fails to act now and control the damages he shaped for himself.

  12. Obasanjo needs to respect himself. Take example from Great people like president Bush, who after leaving office respects his successor . That is how great thinker behave.Obasanjo had his time, not once, but twice, what did he achieve?, nothing actually, other than loathing as usual and silencing his critics.
If one should read deep into his letter to a sitting president, those words are tantamount to TREASON. HE needs to be careful and understand that he is not above the law.
