President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, yesterday took
stock of the achievements of the Senate and attributed the successes recorded
to the divine guidance and nurturing of the Almighty God.
Senator Mark at the 2013 Carol service organized by St. Mulumba
Catholic Chaplaincy, Apo Abuja, said the year 2013 has been filled with
challenges in both political and socio-economical circle but applauded his
colleagues and religious leaders across the divide for upholding the sanctity
of good brotherliness among Nigerians.
The Senate President who was overwhelmed by the large turn-out
of worshipers at the Carol service charged Nigerians to reaffirm their faith in
God and continue to pray for the nation and her leaders.
He said; “Christmas comes only once in a year, this year’s
celebration is here again and we give glory to the Almighty God for His love
and goodness over our life and country.
“All we can do as humans is to be of good faith and work
according to the purpose of the Lord, to be our brothers keeper and live a life
full of passion to be of help to others.”
Senator Mark however tasked Nigerians to be modest in this
festive season saying, festivity will come and go, but we should always be
mindful of need to remember the less privileged.
He congratulated the people and prayed to God to make the season
a memorable one.
Earlier, the Arch Bishop of Abuja Catholic Diocese, John
Cardinal Onaiyekan in the homily admonished Nigerians to live in harmony with
one another, adding that our lives should be exemplary to the rest of the world
to see.
Cardinal Onaiyekan commended the organizers of the Carol service
saying it was the first Carol service he is attending this year and prayed for
peace during and after the festivity.
