Igbobi College have emerged champions of the Rugby
Grassroots Championship organised by the Lagos State Rugby Association after
beating Government College in the final at the Onikan Stadium on Sunday.
Eko Boys High School finished third in the contest
which also featured Ansar Udeen Grammar School, Ransom Kuti Memorial High
School, Baptist Academy, Onitolo Community Senior High School, Toyibat Private
School and CMS Grammar School.
Chairman of the LSRA, Kofo Coker, said the competition
was a platform for secondary schools pupils in Lagos State to showcase their
skills in rugby and for the association to discover talents to be nurtured for
future challenges.
He said, “The aim of the LSRA is to introduce the game
to all secondary schools in Lagos State. We’ll start the process of making the
game more popular among the pupils with the support of the state’s Ministry of
Youth, Sports and Social Development, Lagos State Sports Council and Office of
Grassroots Sports Development.”
