Edo PDP Fulfills N250,000 Promise To Humiliated Widow

 

More money came the way of a widow, Mrs Joy Ifijeh, who penultimate week was upbraided by Governor Adams Oshiomhole, as the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, presented her the sum of N250,000.

Governor Oshiomhole, on Monday, offered a N2 million grant and employment to the widow.

Apart from the N250,000 given to Mrs Ifijieh through the Oredo Local Government PDP Women Leader, Mrs Pat West Erhabor, the Edo PDP also launched an empowerment fund to cater for widows in the state in response to alleged maltreatment of Mrs Ifijieh.

Launching the fund, the state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, said since the party posted the video clip of the governor’s encounter with the woman on the social media, public response has been unprecedented, adding that the sum of N1 million has so far been received by the party in support of a Widows’ Empowerment Programme.

Chief Orbih described the state governor’s offer of job and N2 million to Mrs Ifijeh after the video clip was made public, as a “Greek gift” saying that “without the publicity given to the inhuman treatment meted out to this woman, nothing would have happened.”

The PDP chairman, who emphasised that there was no personal issue between him and Governor Oshiomhole, said the only difference between them was political, pointing out that “it was awkward that the widow was on her knees even when she was the one that was being begged.”

He condemned what he described as “pretentious actions of Governor Oshiomhole” during the presentation of the N2 million cash to the widow, saying that the amount would not wash away the tears of widows in Edo State after the humiliation Mrs Ifijieh went through.
