The Inspector-General of Police, IGP
MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc, with the active support of the United
Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has today unveiled a vigorous anti-crime campaign
jingle targeted at creating awareness on the dangers of crime, discouraging
young Nigerians from engaging in crime and eliciting public support and
participation in tackling crime. The jingles which are in consonance with the IGP’s
untiring efforts at addressing the security challenges of terrorism,
insurgency, kidnapping, cultism, rape as well as human and drug trafficking
offences, will help in rebranding the nation and generally help to educate
citizens on how to avoid victimization by criminals.
The jingles which come in both
standard English and Pidgin English version is targeted at Nigerians from all
walks of life, particularly those in the rural areas who may not have quick
access to other means of communication. The jingles are expected to run
simultaneously in several radio stations across the nation.
While commending UBA for
collaborating with the Police in bringing to fruition the media sensitization
campaign, the IGP calls on other private and corporate bodies to, as a
matter of corporate social responsibility, partner with the Police in their
stride to provide a safe and secure environment for economic development and
other life pursuits.
The unveiling ceremony which took
place at the Force Headquarters, Abuja had in attendance officers and men of
the Nigeria Police Force, top-shots of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc,
members of the public and the press.
