The Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar,
on Thursday, claimed that he never ordered any of his men to disrupt the
meeting of seven aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at
the Kano State Government Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, on November 3.
The police boss, who appeared before
the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, probing into the
incident, said “I want to state categorically that neither myself or any of my
officers directed anybody to disrupt any meeting, but the officer has a duty to
account for his actions and activities within his domain.”
He, however, the the divisional
police officer in Asokoro division, Nnanna Amah, who was at the venue of the
meeting, was there to merely provide security, adding that “the place is a
governor’s lodge and requires maximum security.”
Chairman, House Committee on Police
Affairs, Honourable Usman Kumo, in his brief address at the session, said the
invitation of the police boss was to ensure that the true position of what
transpired at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge was revealed.
He, however, said the police could
not afford to be bias in the PDP crisis or any other issue in the country,
while he urged the police boss to always think about the implication of any of
his actions, even before taking them.
It will be recalled that the House
had summoned the police boss over the reported disruption of the G7 governors’
meeting at Kano State Governor’s Lodge and detailed its committee on police
affairs to carry out the exercise.
